CHILD THERAPY IN ORLANDO & ACROSS FLORIDA
What would indicate that your child needs therapy?
As parents, we often know when something isn’t ‘right’. We look for clues that our child is thriving and happy but it’s often the absence of certain cues that leads us to think there might be an issue.
If your child is facing:
Daily anxiety that makes it hard to do things.
Feeling unsure about what happens next as they grow up.
Trying to recover from challenging experiences like bullying or not having the support they need.
Not knowing how to deal with tough feelings or situations.
Feeling like nobody understands them and they're all alone.
Dealing with high levels of agitation or emotional dysregulation.
Feeling exhausted from trying to fit in and act "normal."
Feeling sad or down a lot of the time.
We can help you decide which direction will best fit their needs.

CHILD THERAPY IN ORLANDO & ACROSS FLORIDA
What We Can Support In Child Therapy
At Violett Counseling, we create a safe and supportive environment where your child can feel understood and empowered to grow and thrive.
Areas we help your child can include:
Autism
Therapy can help your child improve their communication skills and social interaction, and teach them how to navigate social situations and daily routines effectively.
ADHD
In therapy, we can teach kids simple ways to improve their attention and impulse control, using emotional regulation, holistic interventions, and mindfulness techniques to help them feel more organized and in control of their actions.
Anxiety
Therapy teaches kids ways to relax when they feel worried, coping skills, and how to shift negative thought patterns to manage worries and fears in a healthy manner.
Depression
Therapy focuses on building self-esteem, fostering positive coping mechanisms, and exploring underlying emotions to help them understand why they feel the way they do and get the relief they need.
Trauma
Therapy provides a safe space for children to process experiences as we gently guide them to learn techniques to deal with tough feelings, heal, and develop resilience.
Social Connection
Therapy teaches social skills, empathy, and perspective-taking abilities, fostering meaningful relationships and a sense of belonging.
Parent Support
Navigating the world of neurodivergence is complex, and no two journeys are alike. We offer support to help parents receive guidance in understanding their child’s needs, implementing effective strategies at home, and navigating the nuances of parenting a neurodivergent child, creating a supportive environment for their child’s growth and development.

How do you work with my child during child therapy?
We use different modalities or therapy options depending on your child’s individual needs.
Aut(c) Play:
Autplay® therapy was created by Dr. Robert Jason Grant as a way to address mental health needs within a neurodiversity-informed framework, valuing parents and children as partners in the therapy process. Autplay® implements play therapy and is commonly utilized for ages 3-18 who are facing challenges associated with autism, ADHD, social anxiety, sensory differences, learning differences, and developmental and physical disabilities.
The therapeutic powers of play (core change agents) are utilized to address a variety of possible needs your child or adolescent may be experiencing, including:
- Emotional regulation struggles
- Social navigation needs
- Connection growth
- Anxiety and fear reduction
- Sensory challenges
- Executive functioning struggles
- Depression
- Self-esteem issues
- Trauma issues
- Advocacy
- Stigmatization
- Identity appreciation
- The social model of disability
- Autonomy
- Inclusion needs
- Parent/child relationship struggles
Sand Tray Therapy:
This unique approach, which combines play therapy and art therapy, helps evoke both conscious and unconscious memories through tactile play. Sand tray therapy is most commonly used with children and autistic individuals. It can also assist adolescents and adults, particularly those who have experienced trauma or bereavement.
Child Parent Relationship Therapy (CPRT):
CPRT is a play-based treatment program for young children with behavioral, emotional, social, and attachment concerns. Focusing on enhancing the parent-child relationship is at the heart of CPRT, building on the premise that a secure parent-child relationship is the essential factor for a child’s well-being. In CPRT, parents are taught specific skills that focus on enhancing a secure attachment with their child and helping parents attune to and respond to their child’s underlying needs to address symptoms. The program was developed for children aged 3-8 but can be adapted for toddlers and preadolescents.
Safe & Sound™ Protocol
The Safe & Sound Protocol (SSP) is a practical application of Polyvagal Theory, designed to reduce sound sensitivities and improve auditory processing, behavioral state regulation, and social engagement behaviors through specially-filtered music.

EMDR for Children
Using EMDR as part of a comprehensive treatment plan for children with anxiety and/or trauma history offers several benefits over traditional talk therapy alone. The method allows children to process difficult emotions without having to verbalize them in detail or relive traumatic events, which can help young clients feel more comfortable discussing difficult topics. Additionally, because EMDR requires clients to focus on only one memory at a time—rather than trying to tackle multiple issues simultaneously—it can provide quicker results than traditional talk therapy. This is especially beneficial for young clients who may not have the attention span or patience needed for lengthy sessions.

QUESTIONS ABOUT CHILD THERAPY
Commonly Asked Questions
How can therapy help my child develop coping skills for managing sensory issues or meltdowns?
Therapy can help your child learn to emotionally regulate in an effective and healthy way, thus reducing sensory overload and frequency of meltdowns.
What if my child is nervous or reluctant to come to therapy?
It can be scary for a child to start something new or experience a new environment. You can help make the process more inviting for your child by sharing with them that play therapy is fun and helpful. It’s their time to have someone they can share their feelings with and learn ways to feel better. Share pictures of their new therapist and pictures of our kid-friendly child therapy rooms prior to their first visit to help familiarize them with the environment before arriving.
Are there specific therapeutic approaches or techniques that are particularly effective for addressing my child's neurodivergent challenges?
We offer a holistic approach individualized for your child’s strengths and areas of
challenge. Our child therapists are trained in an array of nervous system-regulating
therapeutic modalities for children that address the underlying root cause of current
concerns.
How can therapy support my child in developing self-regulation and emotional expression?
Our children learn and grow through play. Play therapy for children creates an environment for children to freely explore and express themselves as their therapist guides them towards learning techniques for improved emotional regulation through the implementation of individualized treatment plan goals and complimentary therapeutic approaches.
What role does family involvement play in my child's therapy sessions, and how can we support their progress at home?
At the beginning of your child’s treatment, you will first attend two parent intake sessions so that we can learn from who knows your child best…YOU! Throughout your child’s therapeutic process, you will have intermittent parent consultations with your child’s therapist, at which time you will also learn the techniques we are teaching your children so that you can implement them at home. Our holistic approach addresses whole family treatment, equipping children and parents to create a calm, peaceful home environment in which to thrive.
